PROJECTS YOU SAID WE DID
Patient participation group and engagement work
The Practice has been OPEN AND WORKING THROUGHOUT THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC patients asked for the Practice to be open as normal and for appointments as and when needed. The Practice has worked towards these goals and feel they have given an excellent service throughout a very difficult time. The Practice continue to work and listen to patients requests, ideas and input.
The Practice is still working towards the mindfulness garden area within Barkerend Health Centre.
Due to Covid 19 this has been put on hold as it was being undertaken by volunteers and working is not possible at the moment.
Practice manager arranged for the area to be cleared of all weeds and overgrown trees in preparation for the work to start. The area has been taken back to minimum maintenance in preparation for the mindfulness garden project.
The Project will be looked at again in the future

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2019
Plans have been drawn up by David Holt to create a Mindfulness Garden within Barkerend Health Centre. This is being funded by our Practice through a grant for Self Care promotion. Practice Manager Ann-Marie Rose has met with all the other PM's within the health centre and the team from buildings and they are all happy for this project to go ahead as it will benefit all the staff at the health centre and all the patients. The Practice is hoping to hold mindfulness sessions in the new garden. The plans need to be approved by buildings for health and safety and this is in the process of being done. The Practice is excited about this project and is hoping it will start within the next few months. The Practice patient participation group have been involved in this and are hoping to help with some of the work needed. This has been discussed at our meeting and a update will be given at the next one.

Street Life Partnership
The Practice is working with David Holt from Street life partnership and with Dr Akbar's Surgery on securing funds for a PPG Project and it has been suggested we look to use some open space in the middle of barkerend Health Centre for a Tranquil peaceful garden where patients can sit outside while waiting for appointments or after injections. This garden will be good for children and adults with COPD Asthma to get fresh air and also a place for carers and cared for patients to sit. The Practice is hoping to have disability access built and bird boxes and a water feature in the garden. The initial funding is for £1000 per practice and Street life partnership organise a workforce who are volunteers from large and blue chip companies to come out to do the initial work. Street life project also works with local schools where they build the bird boxes and other things so all ages of patients can get involved.
Three Members of the PPG group are keen to get involved with this project and have volunteered to help.
